Theme 3: Energy and the Human Body

This theme was developed with the contributions of Byron Smith's personal trainer Les Gramantik and by the expedition doctor, Virginia Robinson.

In this phase, the Stairway to Everest challenge kicks into high gear as students set their goals, conduct pre-climb ceremonies and begin climbing. (Stairway to Everest Challenge)

Students will also begin their human physiology investigations with activities based around the circulatory system. (Heart Health activities)

Taking this further, students will explore how the body is affected by the extreme cold on Mt. Everest and how Byron Smith and members of the team will have to make decisions based on weather conditions.

Students in all four divisions will conduct activities based on measuring and monitoring weather. (Weather Watch activities)
